Composition of DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae<\/h5>\n

DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae is a solid, non-porous, homogeneous surfacing material composed of 1\/3 acrylic resin (also known as PolyMethyl MethAcrylate or PMMA) and 2\/3 natural minerals. The main mineral is Aluminium TriHydrate(ATH) derived from bauxite, an ore from which aluminium is produced. CORIAN\u00ae assets<\/h5>\n

CORIAN\u00ae combines an attractive appearance with effective, reliable performance, allowing it to meet both the health requirements of a medical institution (fighting against cross-infection and ensuring hygiene) and the patients’ and nursing staff’s need for comfort. Produced exclusively by DuPont™, CORIAN\u00ae combines natural minerals and state-of-the-art acrylic polymers already used in medicine. CORIAN\u00ae and HIV<\/h5>\n

CORIAN\u00ae is a nonporous material that is easily cleaned of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the cause of AIDS. Laboratory tests conducted by the DuPont™ Applied Biotechnology Group demonstrate that a high concentration of HIV can be removed from surfaces of CORIAN\u00ae in healthcare and research facilities by rinsing with a diluted household bleach solution. A 10% solution of continuous household bleach (0.5% sodium hypochlorite) killed all infectious HIV contamination on CORIAN\u00ae.<\/p>\n

CORIAN\u00ae and cross-infections<\/h5>\n

The hygienic qualities of CORIAN\u00ae reduce the possibility of cross-infection to a minimum in all areas requiring particular hygiene. The nonporosity of the material, together with its lack of open joints, prevents the formation of bacteria while facilitating the cleaning of the installation.<\/p>\n

Hygienic<\/h5>\n

DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae is a non-porous material. It is solid through its entire thickness and can be fabricated with inconspicuous seams, rendering its surface hygienic. DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae surfaces do not support the growth of bacteria or fungi. DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae has been certified by an independent laboratory as a hygienic material according to the international norm DIN EN ISO 846. The hygienic performance of CORIAN\u00ae has also been certified by independent German organisation LGA QualiTest GmbH. A stringent range of tests assessing stability against bacteria and fungi, ease of cleaning and design rating from a hygiene standpoint, showed that CORIAN\u00ae was superior to many conventional materials used in healthcare.<\/p>\n

Non-toxic<\/h5>\n

DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae is an inert and non-toxic material. Under normal temperature conditions, it does not emit gases. When burned, it releases mainly Carbon Oxides and the smoke generated is optically light and does not contain toxic halogenated gases. Because of these properties, DuPont™ CORIAN\u00ae is used in public areas and for sensitive applications such as airport check-in counters, walls and work surfaces in hospitals and hotels.<\/p>\n

Stain resistant<\/h5>\n

As it is non-porous, CORIAN\u00ae prevents infiltration by liquids, fluids and chemical products (acids, bases and reagents).<\/p>\n
